Client Categories The UEFA Champions League is an annual club football competition organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and contested by top-division European clubs. It is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world and the most prominent club competition in European soccer. It is a very selective tournament, only allowing entry to the best clubs in the world. The Champions League is something that teams really take special pride in being a part of each season, so I have always questioned why they do not create a special kit to wear for the occasion. The biggest problems with the current state of soccer jerseys. Brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma feature templated design approaches without any special design elements. Unfortunately, this makes each team’s kits look too similar to one another and lack character. As seen below, besides varying colors, there is not much personality. In my research into the soccer community, I found that fans are not excited about the boring and repetitive designs. A soccer jersey can be more than just a uniform. As soccer fan and designer Marlon Feeney states, “People love fashion; people love football; mash them together, and they go crazy for it.” In creating and exploring these jersey designs, I want to show that a soccer jersey can have a thoughtful and appealing design that does the work to inspire fan solidarity and generate excitement and pride in the community. Throughout the years Barcelona Football Club’s main jersey has remained loyal to the same blue and red striped kits, creating different variations of how the stripes are presented, but always remaining very linear. In 2015/16 Barcelona displayed horizontal stripes on their home kit for the first time in their 115-year history. I believe it is time that they take the next step, and I was inspired by famous Barcelona architect Gaudi, who loved to use distortion techniques to create very fluid structures. The Italian club Juventus is known by many names among their fans. One of the most popular is “The Zebras,” which is a reference to their famous usage of black and white. With this in mind I was inspired to use the animal’s pattern to create a striking design that captures the power of the club through using the boldness of a zebra’s look. PSG or Paris Saint Germain is a French club that in recent decades has become one the biggest teams in the world. In 2011 the club was taken over by QSI (Qatar Investment Group). Since then, they have invested over 1 billion dollars into acquiring new players for the team, which directly sparked a run of great success for the French club. This jersey is designed to be a tribute to their owners and pay homage to their home of Qatar, depicting the blue gulf that surrounds it.
